The short version. RectoDate has no account, no ads, and no analytics about you. The photo you take and the text printed on it are read on your phone and never sent anywhere — not to us, not to Google, not to anyone.
One exception, stated plainly because it is still a network transmission: the Google ML Kit library that does the on-device text recognition reports technical diagnostics to Google. Details in section 6.
This policy covers the Android app RectoDate
(com.josh.rectodate), distributed on Google Play. There is no website account and no
server operated by RectoDate.
RectoDate asks for camera access only so you can photograph a piece of paper. When you take a picture:
RectoDate keeps no copy of any picture you take.
If you choose "Choose photo", Android's own photo picker opens. RectoDate receives only the one image you pick, treats it exactly as a camera frame (above), and cannot browse, list, or read any other photo on your device.
RectoDate does not request calendar permission and cannot read your calendar. When you tap "Add to calendar", RectoDate hands a prefilled draft event to whichever calendar app you use, through a standard Android intent. Your calendar app opens it and you press Save. Nothing is ever written to your calendar without you pressing that button.
All of it lives in the app's own private storage on your device. You can erase the history at any time with "Clear" on the home screen, and uninstalling RectoDate removes everything. Because none of it is on a server, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf, and no account to close.
Text recognition is performed by Google's ML Kit library, with the recognition model bundled inside the app. The image and the recognised text stay on your device.
However, ML Kit itself reports technical diagnostics to Google. Per Google's ML Kit data disclosure, this can include device manufacturer, model, OS version and build, available ML hardware, the app's package name and version, performance metrics such as latency, and API configuration such as image format and resolution. It also includes event types and error codes. Google states this data is encrypted in transit and is not sold or transferred to third parties.
This information is about the device and the library's performance, not about the content of your paper. Google does not provide an off switch for it, so rather than claim a purity RectoDate cannot deliver, it is disclosed here.
If RectoDate offers a paid upgrade, the purchase is handled entirely by Google Play. RectoDate never sees or stores your card, billing address, or any payment detail.
RectoDate is a utility for adults, typically parents dealing with school paper. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, and delete personal data a company holds about you. RectoDate holds none: there is no server, no account, and no profile. The data described in section 5 is on your device and under your control.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the previous versions remain visible in this page's public revision history.
